The Sacred Heart Academy golf team ran away with another state title over the weekend, their sixth in the last seven years.

The Valkyries captured their 11th total state championship title in program history.

Senior Ryan Bender led the field taking home the state individual title firing a two day total of 148.

Junior Taylor Edlin came in a close second shooting a two day total of 149.

SHA led the field by 36 shots shooting a 41-over par two day total of 617.

Senior Erin Rowland posted a total of 160 finishing in 31st place while junior Cameron Martin finished in 48th place shooting a total of 163. Finally, sophomore Jacqueline Steier finished in 95th place firing a total of 171.

SHA golf head coach, Leslie Bender, announced she will be stepping down as head coach after this winning season. Coach Bender coached the Valkyrie’s for 12 years and captured six state titles.

“I’ve had a great ride,” Coach Bender said. “I’ll never leave these girls empty-handed… I just won’t be in charge anymore.”

The feeling of Coach Bender’s daughter and team capturing the state title was described as a “dream situation.”

“There’s nothing you want more as a parent than your child to do that and as a coach for your players,” said Coach Bender.

Congratulations to the SHA golf team on their successful season and their regional and state titles!
