The Sacred Heart soccer team defeated Assumption 2-1 on Sunday night to keep the Jenna Cooper Cleat Cup at home for another year.

The game was even at half time, but AHS senior Katie Howard put the Rockets on the board first, scoring a goal off a shot rebound with 23 minutes remaining in the game.

Refocused on the task at hand, SHA junior Lauren Payne evened the score less than five minutes later on an assist from senior Kiley Polk.

With 10 minutes remaining in the game, junior Brielle Heuglin beat the AHS defense down the sideline and put a cross into the box.  Polk finished the cross, beating AHS senior goalkeeper Alyssa Campisano near post, for the game winner.

The Cleat Game MVP went to junior Addy Lancaster who anchored the defense all night. Assumption junior Addison Cline earned the honor for the Rockets.

“Going into the game, we were really focused on bringing home the trophy in honor of Jenna Cooper. The game got off to a slow start, but we were able to settle down and play our game in the second half and came out successful,” said Polk.

SHA soccer will be back home this Wednesday against Oldham County at Horton Field.  Sacred Heart will celebrate seniors Cassie Amshoff, Ashley Brangers, Polk, and Lexie Wagner that evening.  Senior night festivities begin at 7:00 p.m. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
