Saint Patrick’s Day, is quickly approaching on Friday, March 17. In Louisville there are a few events going on to celebrate this day.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade in Louisville was held Saturday, March 11. Each year, the parade is put on by the Louisville Hibernians. The theme this year was “One United Ireland.” The floats proceeded down Bardstown Road between Baxter and Broadway.

A unique exception has been made this year since the holiday falls on a Friday. Catholics are typically not allowed to eat meat on Fridays during Lent. However, since it is a tradition, Archbishop Kurtz has decided to allow Catholics to eat meat on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Kurtz asks that those who indulge in corned beef and cabbage on Friday to “transfer the abstinence from meat from Friday, March 17 to another day that same week.”

At Sacred Heart, there are also ways to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit. Even though uniforms are required, here are ten ideas on how to incorporate green into SHA uniform Friday:
Students can wear green..

  1. Nail polish
  2. Scrunchies
  3. Headbands
  4. Earrings
  5. Necklaces
  6. Bracelets
  7. Rings
  8. Shoes
  9. Shoe laces
  10. Pins for lanyard

Use these tips and wear green on Friday. Don’t get pinched Valkyries!
