This Thursday night, Feb. 23, over 250 students, faculty, and community members joined together for the 12th annual Multicultural Dinner at Sacred Heart Academy.
Spanish teacher Marie Griffin started the dinner in 2005 with the Community Awareness Committee at SHA with help from English teacher Debbie Hudson. It has grown over the years from a small gathering in the SHA cafeteria with an International Fairs and guest speakers to what it is now.
“It is now a Sacred Heart Schools campus-wide event that I enjoy attending to celebrate our colorful and diverse cultures,” Mrs. Griffin said.
This sold out event featured appetizers, entrees, and desserts from around the globe. The attendees started the night by viewing the world fair while trying diverse appetizers. Members of Sacred Heart’s National Honor’s Society then served the guests entrees and desserts from various countries.
The menu included:
Appetizers and Salads:
Shopska Salata- Bulgaria
Greek Salad- Greece
Chips and Salsa Bar- South America
Schnitzel – Germany
Moussaka- Greece
Tortilla Soup- Mexico
Cochinilla with Black Beans and Rice- Mexico (Yucatan)
Jollof Rice- Nigeria
Doro Wat- Ethiopia
(Mac and Cheese for the kids)
Apple Cake- Italy
Mexican Wedding Cookies- Mexico
Flourless Chocolate Cake- France
Tres Leches- Mexico
Pizzeles- Italy
The event featured multiple entertainment acts during dinner. These international performances ranged from young violinists, dancers, a gospel choir, and even the Louisville Pipe Band. The SHA gym was filled with children of all ages, singing and dancing along with the acts. The Louisville and SHA community came together for this Diversity Council event sponsored by SHA.
