Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration 2017

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration 2017

Lauren Eugenio and Christian Davis

On January 12th,  Sacred Heart’s Diversity Club showcased and  honored Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy. The service started with a reverent prayer led by Mrs. Bidwell.

During the service students reflected on the hope and healing that MLK brought to America. The Diversity Club recalled many quotes, including one from his famous “Drum Major” speech.

“If I can help somebody as I pass along,
If I can cheer somebody with a word or song,
If I can show somebody he’s traveling wrong,
Then my living will not be in vain.
If I can do my duty as a Christian ought,
If I can bring salvation to a world once wrought,
If I can spread the message as the master taught,
Then my living will not be in vain.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired many to promote equality and racial justice throughout our communities. To commemorate his message people everywhere are encouraged to take part in service on Martin Luther King, Jr. day, January 16th.
