Sacred Heart Academy was eliminated from the state tournament late Monday night 0-1 on a sudden death overtime goal by Assumption junior Erica Cooper.

It was the fifth match between the Valkyries and the Rockets with AHS winning four of the five meetings.  Three of the Rocket wins were determined by a single goal.

Despite the loss, the Valkyries had a very successful season, finishing 21-6, including a victory over Eastern Regional (Vorhees, N.J.) who had a previously unbeaten streak of 142 games.

The Valkyries say goodbye to 10 seniors, 2015 state champions Emily Fry, Halley Golliher, Taylor Jones, Kennedy Malcolm, Corrie Pfieffer, Meghan Strite, Lauren Szwarc, Audrey Tabor, Elizabeth Vernon, and Lucy Wolz.

“Field hockey taught me a lot about being a leader and that putting so much hard work into something is worth it in the end,” senior Emily Fry said. “The relationships and memories I gained from it are so much more than just winning and losing.”
