The Sacred Heart volleyball team hit the road on Wednesday night and took down the Providence Pioneers 3-0 in a battle of top national teams.

The Valkyries, No. 1 in Kentucky, and the Pioneers, No. 5 in Indiana, battled it out in the first set.  An ace by junior Abigail Westenhoffer closed out the set 25-23.

In the second set, senior Megan Crush started the team off strong with a 5-0 serving run. The Pioneers fought back, but the Valkyries took set two 25-22 after a kill by senior Paige Hammons.

The Valkyries pulled away in third set 25-20.

“It was great to get a big win against such a good out of state team. They made us work for the win, but I’m proud of our team for staying strong when they went on runs,” said senior captain Nadia Dieudonne.

The freshmen and JV teams also pulled out wins against the Pioneers on Wednesday night.

Come support the volleyball team at home on Saturday, Sept. 24, as they take on another Indiana team, Carmel, at 1:00 p.m.
