The perfect addition to our World Language department? Global citizen and Sacred Heart Academy alumnae Rachel Walters.
Ms. Walters, a 2011 graduate of SHA, returned to campus this fall to teach Spanish I and II.
After graduating from SHA, Ms. Walters continued her education at Western Kentucky University. Ms. Walters took advantage of the opportunities WKU had to offer, such as studying abroad. She first studied abroad for a semester in France, primarily to learn how to speak authentically by conversing with the citizens.
After arriving home from France, Ms. Walters spent four weeks in Ecuador as a part of her student teaching.
Of her travels, Ms. Walters said, “I wanted to up my language game by speaking and listening to native speakers.”
Walters brings both her global experience and her spirituality to SHA. Throughout college, she returned to SHA to lead multiple senior retreats.
Walters said, “Leading senior retreats is a big reason why I came back to teach at SHA.”
What she loves most about SHA is the community aspect. She appreciates that she is not isolated in the classroom, but loves she is a part of something bigger. Of course, she jumped at the chance to come back and be a part of the heart again.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Walters loves to sleep, eat, and watch Netflix, just like her students. She enjoys walks in parks and even bought a ukulele last year.
